Sylvia Sykes (USA)
Sylvia began dancing in 1966, competing in 1970, and teaching in 1979. She has studied with many of the dance greats, including Frankie Manning, Dean Collins, Maxie Dorf, and Willie Desatoff. Her extensive studies and travels have made her an expert on regional dance styles and she is known for her expertise in, and the preservation of the older forms of Swing dance. In addition, she is credited with helping to preserve the Balboa by introducing the dance World Wide. She is the most sought-after head judge in the modern Lindy Hop & Balboa dance scenes and is now part owner and head judge of the International Lindy Hop Championships. She is also is actively judging and teaching various forms of Shag, Balboa, and Lindy Hop throughout the U.S., Europe, Australia, and Asia.
Gloria Garcia (SP)
Successfully trying to grow a Balboa scene in Barcelona area since 2005, Gloria has been dancing Balboa since 1998. Having developed her own training technique, she has been teaching internationally since 2010. Coming from various dancing backgrounds like afro-latin, traditional Spanish dances and solo jazz, she has won balboa International titles like Euro Bal Cup 2011, BOTP Classic Open 2013 and ABW PA 2014. Member and leader of White Chocolates solo jazz troupe, she has also been teaching locally Balboa and solo jazz since 2004. She is also a Dance Movement Therapist and uses various movement analysis techniques in her Balboa teaching methology.
Jon Kay (UK) & Cris Kay (SP)
Since they started dancing together in 2007, Jon and Cris have travelled the world taking classes and teaching Balboa, Blues and Lindy Hop. While in Spain they have helped to form Swing&Co. in Zaragoza, Cris’ home town and create an ever growing Swing dance scene where they are the ambassadors of Balboa. They are easily approachable both in class and on the social dance floor and they love to experiment with new teaching and dancing techniques and methodologies. As dancers they mix a cocktail of musicality, elegance and fun with a pinch of craziness. They have won several Balboa competitions in Europe and placed in the Great Lakes Balboa Escape Festival 2017 in Chicago and ABW 2019 in Cleveland.
